West End Recording was started in 1988 to service what was at the time a growing music scene in the city of Chicago. At the same time owner Ken Dabek was co-producing and engineering the award winning music television series "The Pulse" working with such luminaries as Material Issue and the Smashing Pumpkins. As the business grew it became clear that television and film were becoming a focal point of the studios' work. In 2000 it was decided to concentrate more on film and video, production and post-production. With a major infusion of capital, that plan was set into motion..... And that has made us what we are today, a single source audio recording service company.
Well to say owner/engineer Ken Dabek likes audio might be a bit of an understatement, he's been involved with it most of his life! Providing live sound and designing instrument amplifiers and sound systems for touring regional acts in his teens, Ken’s aspiring recording career led him to the prestigious Universal Recording Studios in Chicago where he studied under the tutelage of the acclaimed Murray Allen. Ken’s parallel studies in electrical engineering eventually led to the design and construction of West End Recording. This dual path of study has brought a deep breadth of aesthetic and technical experience to his work.
